Registered Partners
Just as marriage is open to both opposite-sex and same-sex couples, the same applies to registered partnerships. Because the legal provisions governing registered partnerships are (almost) identical to those governing marriage, the question naturally arises as to why both legal institutions are still needed today. The legislature is therefore currently considering converting registered partnerships into a “marriage light” that would involve fewer hurdles than marriage and could address the legal problems that arise for cohabiting couples in the event of a breakup.
